A Glasgow organisation which hands out more than three hundred free hot meals to children at the end of the school day require more volunteers to meet demands.

Launch Foods was set up ten months ago - their vans sit outside five schools in the east end of Glasgow and are expanding to three more starting this week - but there is still a waiting list with several more hoping to be added.

Craig Johnston's the founder of the enterprise said: "Launch Foods is an enterprise with a social conscience.

"We focus on maximising food surplus by feeding kids in our communities with free hot nutritious food after their school day and during holidays. Our food offer is open to all kids and served from American Airstream Rocket food trucks which the kids perceive as being cool, we think so too.

"We have partnered with some of the largest food producers in the UK ensuring we make the most of any surplus. Good for the environment and the kids. A win-win we believe.

"To date we've surpassed 50,000 kids and we could do so much more with an extra vehicle on the road but like most things these days it comes down to money.

"We currently have waiting list schools that have requested a visit but that means more food, more trucks and more money so it's a bit of a frustration for us at the moment.

"We'll feed kids healthy, nutritious food every day after school and we'll keep going - we're currently unable to get to these other schools but hopefully that'll change.

"We don't receive any Government funding.

"The bottom line is I think we should be embarrassed there's kids going hungry in our city and our country."
