Appeal for information after man with serious head injury took bus from East Kilbride to Hairmyers hospital

Published 7th Nov 2018

A 27 year old man is being treated in intensive care after being struck on the head in the early hours of this morning.

Around 6.50am, the man got on the Airdrie to Hairmyres, No 201 First Bus, at the Westwood Road, East Kilbride, stop.

He was covered in blood and said to the driver he had been struck on the head and wanted to go to hospital.

He got off the bus at Hairmyres Hospital where he was treated for a serious head injury. However, his condition deteriorated and he is now under the care of medical staff within the Intensive Care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan, Glasgow.

Detective Sergeant Martin McKendrick, Cambuslang CID, is leading the enquiry. He said:

“At the moment we still have to establish how, why and where the man came about his injuries.

“We know that there were two people, a man and a woman, at the bus stop in Westwood Road who got on at the same time as the man.

"We don’t believe they were together or involved in any way with what happened but it’s possible they may have seen or heard something or maybe got talking to the man prior to him getting on the bus.

“I would ask that they, or indeed anyone who can assist our enquiry, contact the CID at Cambuslang Police Station via 101 quoting reference number 0796 of 7 November 2018. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
