Airdrie children’s home told to improve or face possible closure
Care watchdog issues urgent warning over serious failings at Allinvale House
Last updated 1st May 2025
A children’s home in Airdrie has been ordered to make urgent improvements after inspectors raised serious concerns about the quality of care being provided.
The Care Inspectorate issued an official Improvement Notice to Allinvale House, highlighting major issues with medication handling, child protection, staffing levels and risk management.
The watchdog said the home must tighten up how it stores and records medication, ensure qualified staff are always available, and improve safeguarding procedures.
Inspectors also warned that children were at risk without better care planning.
The service has been given until the end of May to make the changes.
If it fails to meet the required standards, it could face closure.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said they would continue to monitor the home closely.
"An inspection has identified serious and significant concerns about the quality of care experienced by young people at Allinvale House, Airdrie.
“We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for young people, their families and staff at the service.
“However, our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of young people.
"Because of our concerns about the safety of young people we have issued an Improvement Notice to the service.
"This sets out the significant improvements that must be made, swiftly, so that the care experienced by young people is of a standard they have a right to expect.
