A man accused of murdering his wife has sacked his legal team, it has emerged. Peter Maher allegedly killed Jeanna Maher (51) at her home in Drumchapel, Glasgow last September 26.
The 57 year-old was back in the dock for a further hearing in connection with the case.
His QC Brian McConnachie said Maher had been “unhappy about advice” given by solicitors instructing the advocate.
Mr McConnachie added: “As a result, he has contacted of representatives in Edinburgh to represent him. I am now without instructions.”
The QC said the case would have to be continued for Maher's new legal team to “takeover” the case.
Lady Stacey allowed that to happen and set a new hearing for next month.
The judge told Maher: “I am prepared to continue the case so you can instruct new lawyers and they can speak to you.”
Prosecutors claim Mrs Maher - an Asda supermarket worker - had her wrists and ankles bound with ligatures before being repeatedly struck with a mallet or similar item.
Maher is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice after the alleged murder.
This includes a claim that he did clean blood at the house and change his clothes.
He is further accused of assaulting his wife on various occasions between January 2012 until the day before the alleged killing.
The charge states - amongst several accusations - that he punched her as well as throwing a mobile phone and remote control at her.
The 51-year old has also been returned to prison after he was assessed in Carstairs for 28 days.
Maher has entered no plea to the charges at the High Court in Glasgow.
