A former prison guard told a rape trial him and his ex-police officer friend having sex with a schoolgirl was “not a normal night out”. Darren Hunter made the claim as he gave evidence at the High Court in Glasgow.
The 30 year-old told jurors he went into Lee McMullan's bedroom as he was having sex with the 17 year-old girl.
Hunter stated he then also had intercourse with the teenager at his 33 year-old friend's flat in Glasgow's Gallowgate days before Christmas 2017.
He denied seeing the girl as an “opportunity” to have sex.
Hunter and McMullan deny rape and claim consent.
It emerged Hunter had previously worked as a prison officer.
McMullan was with the police at the time in the city's G division.
Jurors have heard how the pair had been on a Christmas night out in Prestwick, Ayrshire.
It was in the town they later met the girl - now aged 19. She had earlier been in a club in nearby Ayr.
She joined them at a hotel before going back to McMullan's flat.
The girl claimed in evidence she had no memory of having sex with anyone.
Hunter claimed he saw McMullan and the girl kissing at the flat before going into the ex-police officer's room.
Hunter said after a few minutes he then decided to follow them.
He told his QC Tony Graham: “In the past I have been in a situation having sex, someone has come in and then had a threesome.”
Hunter said he also had intercourse with the teenager.
Mr Graham: “Not the most romantic encounter?”
He replied: “No, it is not.”
Hunter said he and his friend later learned the girl was 17. He told the court: “It did not sit well with me.”
Mr Graham: “Having sex with a 17 year-old still at school. Is that a normal night out?”
Hunter: “No.”
The QC: “Did you think you had done anything wrong legally as opposed to morally?”
Hunter: “No.”
Prosecutor Lisa Gillespie later quizzed Hunter's claims he walked into the room as McMullan was having sex with the girl.
Hunter said neither the teenager or his friend appeared “embarrassed”.
Miss Gillespie: “Did you not think standing at the door: 'I don't know what reception I will get. Lee might start shouting at me'?”
Hunter: “My thought process was that it had happened to me before.”
The prosecutor put to Hunter he saw the girl as “an opportunity to have sex”.
He replied: “Absolutely not.”
Hunter went on to claim texts after the incident was “just lads banter”.
The trial, before Lord Burns, continues.
