A76 closed for hours on Monday after 'tragic event' in New Cumnock

The town of New Cumnock in East Ayrshire was essentially closed on Monday night, following what’s being described by locals as a ‘tragic incident’.
Emergency services were called to a road crash on the A76 at Castle Place at 12:35 in the afternoon, with the road closed in both directions and diversions put in place.
Posting on Facebook and Twitter The New Cumnock Development Trust said: "In light of the tragic event in our community today, all NCDT activities over the coming week are now cancelled."
New Cumnock Bowling Club also confirmed they would be closing on Monday due to the "tragic event in our village".
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.35pm on Monday, 18 September, police were called to a road crash at Castle Place, New Cumnock.
"Officers are at the scene and the road is closed."
Police said no further updates would be issued on Monday night.
