82-year-old man arrested after 81-year-old woman found dead at Irvine home

An elderly man is under arrest after a female pensioner was found dead in a home in Irvine.

Police raced to the scene on Macara Drive just after midday on Sunday, and the 81-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 82-year-old man was found injured at the property and needed hospital treatment. He was then arrested by officers who are treating the death as unexplained.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.10pm on Sunday, 11 February, 2024, we were called to a report of the death of a woman at a property in Macara Drive, Irvine.

"Emergency services attended and the body of an 81-year-old woman was found within.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained

"An 82-year-old man was found injured at the property and taken to hospital for treatment.

"The 82-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing."
