Firefighters are working to rescue 35 people stranded in a supermarket by floodwater.

Emergency services in Ayrshire and the Kilmarnock area have been working through the night to tackle several incidents of serious flooding after heavy overnight rain.

Water rescue crews from Polmadie and Ayr are in attendance at a supermarket in Kilmarnock, where 35 members of staff and customers are stranded by floodwater.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: A rescue operation is under way to ensure their safe rescue and there are no injuries to report.''

Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to take extra care while travelling in the area.
