Three men have been arrested and charged over the brutal death of a man in a street in South Lanarkshire.

35-year-old Joe Buchanan was killed in what police say was a targeted attack in Douglas last Sunday around 8.30pm

The suspects, aged 21, 40 and 41, are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Three men have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of 35-year-old, Joe Buchanan, in Springhill Street, Douglas on Sunday, 13 April, 2025.

"Mr Buchanan died at the scene following an alleged incident on the street around 8.35pm on Sunday night.

"All three men, aged 21,40 and 41, are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 22 April, 2025.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Joe Buchanan’s family released a statement last week thanking those who have offered their support:

"Joe had a heart of gold, and we would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward. We would also ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."
