18 year-old dies in crash on A73 near Airdrie

A teenage driver has died after his car was involved in a crash with two other vehicles in North Lanarkshire.

An 18-year-old has died following a crash on the A73 near Airdrie. The man has been named locally as Harris Gorman.

The crash happened on Stirling Road near to Dykehead Road around 1.15pm on Sunday.

He was driving a black Volkswagen Polo which hit two other vehicles - a Seat Leon and a Vauxhall Insignia.

A male passenger from the Volkswagen Polo suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision and was taken to Monklands Hospital. The occupants of the other two cars were also taken to Monklands Hospital as a precaution.

Sergeant Simon Reilly of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit said: "We are supporting the man's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the collision and we would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to a police officer to come forward as soon as possible.

"Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting reference 1922 of October 6."
