18 Children Hurt In Airdrie School Bus Crash

Eighteen children have been taken to hospital after a school bus accident.

The double-decker was involved in a collision with a car in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, at around 8.40am.

It is understood none of the pupils were seriously hurt in the crash on Petersburn Road.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: Several pupils have been taken by ambulance to Monklands and Wishaw General as a precaution.

The driver of the Vauxhall Insignia was not injured.Petersburn Road has been closed until inquiries are completed.''

18 pupils were taken to hospital with minor injuries but they have all now been discharged.

Karen Kubica, Head Teacher of Caldervale High School, said: “There was an accident involving a school bus from Chapelhall and a car on Petersburn Road this morning at around 08:40.

“On receiving a report about the accident, school staff attended the scene of the accident immediately to assist emergency services.

“The majority of pupils from the bus were able to be accompanied to school by school staff.

“School staff attended hospital and waited until parents were able to meet their children.

“We are extremely grateful to the emergency services and staff at Dunrobin primary school for their professionalism, support and care.

“We are keeping parents updated on the situation.”
