Road policing officers in Lanarkshire are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the M73, which has claimed the life of a 16 year old girl.

Around 1.30pm yesterday (Saturday 28th January) police were called to reports of a two car crash northbound near the Gartcosh junction.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 62-year-old man, and the rear passenger of the same vehicle, a 16-year-old female, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. The female later died.

The driver of the other, a 42-year-old man, was not hurt. He was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and later released pending further enquiries.

The road was closed for around seven hours while crash investigations were carried out and reopened around 8.40pm.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or has dash cam footage of the area at the time to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1665 of 28 January, 2023.
