16-Year-Old Boy Appears In Court Charged With Bailey Gwynne's Murder
A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of 16-year-old Bailey Gwynne.
Bailey was allegedly stabbed at an Aberdeen school at around 1:30pm on Wednesday, during lunchtime break.
Police and Ambulance Services were called to the school, where they found Bailey seriously injured. They rushed him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but he died a short time afterwards.
Today the teenager accused of killing him appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where a private hearing was held.
He was charged with murder and carrying a blade in public.
He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
The teenager was committed for further examination and is expected to appear in court again next week.
Hundreds of pupils gathered to lay flowers outside the school where tragic Bailey was allegedly murdered on Wednesday.
The school was closed for Thursday and Friday, to allow crime scene investigators to carry out their work. The school will re-open on Monday.
His devastated family, who live in Maryculter, a small village on the outskirts of Aberdeen, said they were lost for words when describing their loss on Thursday.
His mother Kate Gwynne, 33, said in a statement: "There are no words. Bailey is our beloved boy and our heart. Our hearts have gone with him. A special son, brother, grandson and friend - he never failed to make us smile. He will always be our boy. We don't know what we will do without our junior 'man about the house'."
Bailey was described by friends at his school as a quiet teenager and a fitness enthusiast who had dreams of joining the Royal Marines when he was older.
