12 year old girl dies after being hit by car in Motherwell

A 12-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.

It happened on The Loaning in Motherwell at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene and she was taken to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children, but she later died from her injuries.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested and is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 4.15pm on Tuesday, police were called to reports of a 12-year-old girl having been struck by a car at The Loaning in Motherwell.

"Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where she later died.

"A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged over alleged road traffic offences.'
