A sadistic thug convicted of barbaric crimes including ripping out his lover's teeth with pliers during a horrific campaign of domestic violence has been given a life sentence.

Donald Jeffrey's victim sobbed as she recalled her years of misery at his hands.

She told how her teeth rattled off the floor as Jeffrey coolly pulled them from her mouth - then made her pose in front of a mirror.

In one of the most appalling cases of domestic abuse, a jury heard how he repeatedly raped the mum, tried to drown her in a freezing bath and threatened to chuck her out a 17th-floor window.

He also dropped heavy dumb-bells onto her body after demanding she lie on the ground.

Jeffery had by this time already unleashed his violent temper on another woman - which left her so broken she thought about killing him to end her hell.

The victims now have justice after the 44 year-old was convicted of a total of 13 charges following a harrowing trial at the High Court in Glasgow earlier this year.

The crimes included attempted murder, five rapes as well as assaults.

At the High Court in Paisley, judge Lord Matthews imposed an order for lifelong restriction on Jeffrey - who denied the allegations - meaning he will be supervised for the rest of his life after being released from prison.

He was ordered to serve 10 years behind bars for his "appalling offences" before being eligible for parole and placed on the Sex Offenders' register indefinitely.

Passing sentence the judge told Jeffrey: "You were found guilty of a catalogue of appalling offences against two vulnerable women who had the misfortune to be your partners.

"The relationships were characterised by jealousy, serious violence and rape.

"You dominated the lives of these women and subjected them to extreme emotional and physical cruelty as well as sexual aggression."

He added: "It is obvious you are a very dangerous man and it is my duty to protect the public from you for as long as you are able to lift a finger, I propose therefore to make an order for lifelong restriction."

The first victim who bravely testified against the thug relived the grim teeth incident.

She had gone to Jeffrey's home in the city's Maryhill in June last year to enjoy a meal and some drinks.

But, Jeffrey later flew into a rage when he logged onto Facebook and accused his girlfriend of "talking to other men".

The 47 year-old told the jury: "He saw red - each time he took a scroll through my mobile phone, I would get a heavy slap.

"This went on for a couple of hours. He would ask a question and, if he did not like the answer, I would get hit.

"I was getting called umpteen things - just things to bring me down."

The battered mum recalled "hoping for the best" and that she would "come out alive".

But, Jeffrey was nowhere near finished - and demanded his lover "get the pliers".

The woman was so petrified, she handed them to Jeffrey despite knowing his intentions.

The victim told the jury: "He had threatened before to take my teeth out with pliers.

"I was hoping to god that he would not do this. But, when I gave him them, he did not need to ask me to open my mouth...I just stood there.

"I did not even want to think what would happen if I refused - I was not taking the chance.

"He then started - pliers in, pull...pliers in, pull.

"One tooth took an extreme amount of force because two of my teeth had been glued together (during earlier dental work)."

She added: "I could hear my teeth falling onto the wooden floor."

The woman remembered about eight of her teeth being ripped out. They have still to be repaired a year later.

She was so numb with fear during her ordeal, she insisted she felt no pain.

The mum said: "I don't think I even shed a tear."

The trial heard sick Jeffrey then demanded his lover go with him to the bathroom mirror.

She recalled: "He took me by the hand and then stood behind me smiling, laughing.

"He was saying: 'oh, you look good now' and "give me a smile."

Crazed Jeffrey next grabbed a hammer and continued the brutal attack.

The victim revealed: "I said: 'no, Donald, please'. At first, it was my knees and shins.

"He then told me to stand up - and that was when he put the hammer on my head."

The woman believes she suffered a brain injury as a result of being smacked.

Jeffrey then ordered his blood soaked partner into a freezing cold bath where he plunged her head under the water.

She sobbed as she told the jury: "Human survival instinct was to try and live as long as I could.

"My head was under four times - the last time he actually jumped in the bath in his jeans.

"Before that I frantically broke the plug (to drain the water) - I even apologised for that.

"I did not think I was going to get out."

Jeffery eventually let her go - but demanded she sit semi naked in the bath then spat on her face.

She added: "He said: 'you think you are smart now?' When he spat, it was like a brick hitting my eye.

He also remarked "look at the f** nick of you' as she cowered bleeding and bruised.

But, the woman had already suffered regularly at his hands since they started dating in 2008.

Depraved Jeffery raped the woman - including a time he threw £100 down on her and demanded she strip.

She often had to seek refuge after becoming his punchbag.

One time he told her: "I am hitting you like I am hitting a man."

The jury heard how Jeffrey ordered his girlfriend to lie on black bags that had been placed on the floor.

He then got hold of dumb-bell weights and repeatedly dropped them head-height onto the scared woman.

She said: "He told me to put my hands in my pockets, so I could not catch them."

Jeffrey also slashed the woman across the face leaving her scarred for life.

She told the jury how she stitched the wound up herself using cut-up pieces of plaster strips.

The woman then revealed that in 2013 - at her flat in the city's east end - Jeffrey threatened to throw her from her 17th-floor window.

The victim explained: "He had me over his shoulder. He opened the window, I was screaming.

"I really thought that was it - there was nothing that was going to catch me.

"But, then he dropped me beside the window. I was just so glad that I was not out of it."

The woman never spoke to police until last year. She tried to cover up the abuse by making claims such as being involved in bike accidents.

The trial also heard from another victim of Jeffrey's, who he met in the mid-1990s.

The 44 year-old was raped and battered by a man, who made her "feel guilty" about stepping out the front door.

She recalled: "He was not the person I thought he was. He was controlling.

"I soon had no friends, did not see my family as much. If I did something like wash my hair, I was accused of going to see someone.

"My appearance went downhill. I did not care any more about myself."

He once smashed her arm with a martial arts weapon while she was heavily pregnant. She then gave a harrowing account of how she watched helplessly as Jeffrey repeatedly whacked a young boy living at her house.

He then gave her the belt he had been using - and demanded she hit the child.

She said: "I felt sick. It should not have happened, but I felt it was the only way to stop it at the time."

The woman's ordeal got so bad, she recalled a day where she thought about killing Jeffrey.

The mum said: "Donald was sleeping on the bed. I found myself on the bed with a mallet in my hands.

"I just wanted it all over. I could not do it any more. I was there...but then he just woke up".

She remembered raging Jeffrey grabbing her wrists, his eyes "burning" through her.

The woman told how he then raped her as she added: "I just thought that he was going to get the mallet and finish me."

Jeffrey was hauled into the dock after his victims bravely reported their ordeals to the authorities.

He repeatedly tried to delay a trial by sacking lawyers due to defend him.

He was found guilty of eight charges against the teeth pull victim between 2008 and 2014.

These were attempted murder, three rapes and four assaults.

Jeffrey was convicted of five offences on the other woman - two rapes, indecent assault and two assaults between 1994 and 1998.

The jury heard after the verdicts that Jeffrey already had three high court convictions.

He was previously jailed for robbery, firearms offences and drug crimes.

Jeffrey showed no emotion as he was lead hand-cuffed to the cells.
