The schoolgirl was out on Clippens Road when she was struck by a black Peugeot 207 at around 3.30pm yesterday.
The child was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children where medical staff describe her condition as serious. No one else was injured as a result of this incident.
Constable Ian Murray, from the Greenock Divisional Road Policing Unit, said today: “This was a serious incident which has left a young girl in a serious condition at hospital. We are still determining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
“We would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information that will help us with our ongoing investigation.
“Details can be passed to the Greenock Divisional Road Policing Unit via 101.”
