Every so often WhatsApp gets an update, in the last year we've seen the 'delete for everyone' update, the update that would delete all of your messages if you didn't back them up, and earlier this year, an update which included adding stickers to images, videos and gifs, and replying privately to a group message.

Now, the latest update to be discovered by tech website WABetaInfo, which is currently in Beta, will mean that users CAN'T take screenshots of their chats. According to the tech website, after the update is released, if users change their settings to a new higher security setting then they'll also need to use their fingerprint to open WhatsApp, as explained by WABetaInfo posted on their blog,

'In this beta update we find a new improvements for the Authentication feature (that’s not available yet). When the Authentication feature will be enabled, your fingerprint is obviously required to open WhatsApp, but conversation screenshots are blocked.

'It means you won’t be longer able to screenshot your chats if you enable that feature.'

Since the discovery of this potential new feature, users of the popular messaging app have been very vocal about the changes. One user tweeted, 'I don't get it. what's the point. how's this useful. you've authenticated fingerprint security, that means your chat is secured. why blocking screenshot, after all its your own chat, its your own @WhatsApp, you should able to do what you want.'

Another user tweeted, 'I don't see the point. The authentication feature is something completely separated from the screenshots. "Because we want to protect all the content and info of your account.. no matter what". I just don't get it'.

A third simply said, 'It's really stupid.'

This new update is not currently available to the general public, but according to WABetaInfo, 'The Authentication feature is under development and it will be available in future.'
