TV Choice Awards 2021: Winners revealed

As Line of Duty bags a hat trick of gongs

After over 600,000 TV fans voted for their favourite shows of the year, the TV Choice Awards 2021 winners have been revealed at a virtual ceremony hosted by comedian Rob Beckett.

Line of Duty lead the pack with trio of awards, taking home Best Drama, as well as Best Actor and Best Actress gongs for Martin Compston (DI Steve Arnott) and Vicky McClure (DI Kate Fleming).

The critically acclaimed series, which also picked up the win for Best Drama in 2019, became the UK’s most watched drama series of the century so far after 12.8million people watched the big reveal of bent copper ‘H’.

Other winners include I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! which won Best Reality Show for the 16th time, This Morning which beat out the likes of The Chase and Loose Women for Best Daytime Show and James Martin’s Saturday Morning which won Best Food Show for the first time.

Following the show’s hat trick of awards, Line of Duty creator Jed Mecurio said: “Everyone involved in Line Of Duty is absolutely thrilled to be recognised in this way by the viewers and readers of TVChoice, it means an enormous amount to us and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

He continued: “It wouldn’t be the show it is without the amazing performances of Vicky, Martin, Adrian and our brilliant guest leads including Kelly Macdonald for season 6 and all the other brilliant guest leads we’ve had. They’re the guys who actually do it on camera so it’s definitely a tribute to them."

Line of Duty picked up three gongs at the TV Choice Awards 2021

Three was also the magic number for Coronation Street, who celebrated a trio of awards for the second year in a row, with a clean sweep of awards across the soap categories. As well as taking home Best Soap, David Neilson was voted Best Soap Actor for his portrayal of Cobbles legend Roy Cropper, while Sally Carman bagged Best Soap Actress for playing grieving mother Abi Franklin.

Meanwhile, after amassing over 82million viewers around the world, Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton was voted Best New Drama and Call The Midwife topped the Best Family Drama category for the eighth time.
