A Coronation Street fan helped saved Sue Nicholls' life after spotting a life threatening symptom on screen.

The episode, which aired back in 2010, saw Sue's iconic character Audrey in a love triangle with Claudia (Rula Lenska) and Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers).

One particular scene, where Audrey is sat in bed waiting for Lewis, caught the attention of nurse Anna Bianconi-Moore.

Anna, who was working at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, was watching the soap when she noticed a mole on Sue's shoulder.

At the time, Anna told the Daily Mail: "I noticed it was irregular in shape and had at least three different colours.

"These are two of the red-flag signals that distinguish the most deadly form of skin cancer – malignant melanoma. I was obviously incredibly worried for Sue, and felt I needed to do something."

Anna swiftly contacted Corrie's medical team, who passed on the message to Sue. She was referred to a skin cancer specialist and plastic surgeon, who concluded that the mole should be removed.

Just a week later, Sue's surgeon confirmed that the mole had turned into a melanoma, Anna was right to be concerned.

The Corrie icon, who first appeared on the famous cobbled street in 1979, invited nurse Anna to the set after she was given the all clear.

Sue said: "It was so important to me to meet Anna, and thank her.

"She is such a kind, conscientious and clever lady. I wouldn’t have done anything about my mole had she not got in touch – it was just a freckle, and I’d had it for ever.

"I’m a great believer in fate and in this case it was a positive fate that Anna happened to be watching that particular episode that evening."
