Last night Strictly Come Dancing said 'goodbye' to popular contestant Aston from JLS, with many taking to social media to express their sadness at the shock departure.

The JLS star had been favourite to win behind singer Alexandra Burke, but it wasn't to be as the judges decided to choose The Saturdays' singer Mollie King to go through to next week after their dance-off.

Many viewers, including celebrities, were clearly not happy with the decision and took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

Former Strictly Come Dancing winner and singer Alesha Dixon said, 'Craig giving Aston a 4 basically put the nail in the coffin! Ridiculous! Can't believe one of the best dancers has left so soon!!!'

Whilst Good Morning Britain presenter, Susanna Reid said, 'Can’t see anyone on my timeline who thinks this was the right decision. Awesome dancing @AstonMerrygold'

Other viewers also felt very strongly about the decision saying they would boycott the show.

After the show Aston took to Instagram to say he was 'gutted obviously but... I'm not sad that it's over, I'm happy that it got to happen! Next stop and adventure is being a daddy.'

It was announced in September that the singer's girlfriend Sarah Lou Richards, is due to give birth to the couple's first child in January 2018.

Taking to Instagram Aston said, 'On May 29th 2017 we found out that our lives were going to change forever!

'This secret has been so hard to keep, but I'm so excited to finally be able to share the news with everybody that me and my beautiful lady @sarahlourichards are going to be parents!!!!!! 😃❤🌍😍'

Aston shared a photo of the couple, with three pink and three blue helium balloons above a chair which said 'reserved' next to a baby scan.

Meanwhile the competition carries on for the current series of Strictly Come Dancing. So far these celebrities have been voted off the show:

Week one: Nobody left

Weel two: Chizzy Akudolu lost the dance-off with Brian Conley and she was the first to leave the show.

Week three: Reverend Richard Coles and chef Simon Rimmer battled it out. The Rev was the second to leave.

Week four: Charlotte Hawkins was against Davood Ghadami in the dance off but it was agreed unanimously by the judges that we'd be saying goodbye to Charlotte.

Week five: Brian Conley and Simon Rimmer spent a second week in the dance-off but it was comedian Brian who left the show.

Week six: Simon Rimmer lost the dance off against Mollie King.

Week seven: Mollie King found herself in the dance-off for the second time, this time against Aston Merrigold. Sadly Aston left the competition.
