It's been more than 15 years since the popular medical comedy Scrubs left our screens — and now die-hard fans are counting down the days until it makes its anticipated return.

The hit TV show, which originally ran from 2001 to 2010, starring fan faves JD, Elliot, Turk and Carla is set to get a reboot in February (over in the US), after filming got underway in 2025. While we await a UK release date, here's everything there is to know, including which popular characters are returning...

Which characters will be in the reboot?

Fans will be THRILLED to know the fab four, JD (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), Turk (Donald Faison) and Carla (Judy Reyes) are ALL back, with Dr Cox (John C McGinley) and Janitor (Neil Flynn) making a return too.

Although it's not been revealed whether Ken Jenkins will reprise his role as Bob Kelso, show bosses have previously expressed a desire to see the now-85-year-old return. Bill Lawrence said he hopes Ken is able to "come play with us a little bit."

Sadly Sam Lloyd, who played hapless lawyer Ted, passed away in 2020 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

When will the Scrubs reboot be on telly?

While we do know it will arrive in the US on 25th February 2026, there's currently no release date for the UK.

What channel will it be on?

We haven't been given a channel for the reboot just yet. When the series first premiered back in 2002 in the UK, it aired on Channel 4. But old episodes of Scrubs are now available to catch up on ITVX and Disney+. We'll bring you more details on where to watch it as we get them.

When was the reboot announced?

In November 2025, the Scrubs Instagram page shared footage of the lead cast filming the reboot, alongside the caption: 'Here we go 🎥'. The popular cast members were seen in the video holding a piece of paper that read 'NOW IN PRODUCTION'.

It confirmed years of speculation that there was more of the popular medical comedy to come.

The Scrubs cast, along with the show's creator Bill Lawrence reunited on stage at the ATX TV Festival back in 2022, telling fans they were very keen to do a reboot.

Cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes and Neil Flynn, along with Bill were all asked who wants to do a reboot and surprisingly they didn't hold back from a resounding "yes".

"I think we all want it," Donald, who played Turk in the hit series said at the time. He continued: "We all would love to work together again. It’s just that it’s really hard. Everyone is doing things."

Then, gesturing towards Bill he said: "This dude’s never going to be free again." With Zach comparing a sequel without Bill to an ET sequel without Steven Spielberg.

The creator of the popular medical comedy-drama told fans: "We’re gonna do it because we’re lucky enough that people care".

"Top to bottom, we enjoy spending time with each other. If you ever have an excuse to work with people that you’d want to spend time with anyways, run to it… It’s worth it to me to see Neil back in that jumpsuit again."

To which Neil replied: "It’s not a jumpsuit, it’s a shirt and pants!" Neil played The Janitor in the series, who practically lived in his 'iconic' outfit.

Neil Flynn as The Janitor in Scrubs

When asked where the characters would be now, Bill refrained from answering the question, however Judy (who played Carla), joked: "I think Turk and J.D. finally come out."

Scrubs was on air for nine seasons across nine years, starting in 2001, it starred Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes.

During its run it received 17 Emmy nominations, winning Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Series (2005) and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation (2007). Zach Braff was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy category, for three years in a row in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Now take a look through TV shows we'd love to see make a comeback:

Footballers' Wives

Broadcasting between 2002-2006, Footballers' Wives followed fictional Premier League football club Earls Park, as well as all of the drama from both the players and their fiery wives!

In October 2025, Gary Lucy, who played Kyle Pascoe in the series, said: "We're trying to bring it back but it might be in a slightly different format. I can't say too much about it. But I won't be a footballer in it, I'm too old for that. But in some capacity, yes I'll be in it, definitely."

Bad Girls

Set inside a fictional women's prison, Bad Girls aired on ITV between 1996-2006 and featured some very famous faces, including Claire King and Debra Stephenson.

Benidorm

Airing for a huge 10 series between 2007 and 2018, ITV/STV sitcom Benidorm was a huge hit with fans. Ever since the show ended, fans have been begging creator Derren Litten to create more, with rumours rife in April 2025 that bosses are considering maybe bringing the show back.

The Bill

First broadcast in 1983, police drama The Bill certainly proved popular, airing until 2010. The show focused on the lives and work of police officers and starred well-known actors such as Trudie Goodwin, Graham Cole and Mark Wingett.

Don't Try This At Home

Who remembers sitting down in front of the TV on a Saturday night, watching on as Davina McCall helped members of the public take on tough and fearful challenges?

Sabrina the Teenage Witch

She was confident, funny, magical AND she had a talking cat. Sabrina made us all want to be a witch! The show was also rebooted between 2018 and 2020 as a Netflix series called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Ugly Betty

Believe it or not, it's been a massive 16 years since Ugly Betty last aired on our screens! The show, which featured actress America Ferrera, followed a character called Betty Suarez, who despite her lack of 'style', landed a job at a very prestigious fashion magazine.

Where The Heart Is

The British drama, which was filmed in the Yorkshire town of Skelthwaite, proved very popular with viewers between 1997-2006, showcasing the lives of a group of district nurses and their families.

It's a Knockout

It was stupid, it was crazy, but it was certainly fun! It's a Knockout started way back in 1966, but the show made a number of returns on BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5!

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

We'd love to see Will Smith get back into his character alongside Carlton Banks, however we got the next best thing in 2022, with the Fresh Prince reboot called Bel Air, where Jabari Banks played Will Smith.

Stars In Their Eyes

A true classic! Stars In Their Eyes, originally hosted by Leslie Crowther, first aired in 1990 with Matthew Kelly taking over in 1993. The show did make a return with Harry Hill in 2015, but it didn't quite take off!

The Queen's Nose

Who would have thought that rubbing a 50p coin would be so interesting? We used to love watching the adventures of Harmony as she used up her magic wishes.

Gossip Girl

Although the show was given a reboot in 2021 with a brand new cast, it didn't live up to expectations of the original series, which aired between 2007-2012.

Fun House

We used to love watching two schools battle each other in three rounds of madness. Bring back the gunge and Pat Sharp's crazy hairstyles!

Grange Hill

Despite being at school all day, we loved to come home and watch other people be at school. Strange. But gripping story lines and relatable characters had us glued to our screens.

London's Burning

Airing between 1988 and 2002, London's Burning documented the lives of a fictional London Fire Brigade Blue Watch at the fictional Blackwall fire station.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory was on TV from 2007 until 2019. The show centred around two physicists who shared an apartment, Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter and Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, and their friendship with Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco, who lived opposite.

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones lasted for eight seasons between 2011 – 2019. The show starred Sean Bean as Eddard 'Ned' Stark and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.

House of Dragons is the prequel but we really wish we'd have gotten more (or another ending) to the original Game of Thrones TV show. Who knows, maybe when the last book is out they might make some more episodes…
