It's been over 10 years since factual series Educating Yorkshire first aired on Channel 4, and now the show has been recommissioned for a follow-up at Thornhill Community Academy in 2025!

You'll no doubt remember the incredible Mr Burton, who helped student Musharaf Asghar overcome his stammer during the first series. Well, he's now the proud Headteacher of the school, helping his students on a daily basis.

The new series will follow Mr Burton and his students as they go through the 24/25 school year, juggling the struggles such as the rise in teenage anxiety, a post-Covid national attendance crisis, the influence of mobiles and social media, and difficulties in recruiting and retaining teachers.

Channel 4's Rita Daniels said: "Telling the complex story of young people in Britain in 2025 is crucial for Channel 4, and what better way to do so than through this iconic, much-loved school. It will be fantastic to see Mr Burton in charge, and I look forward to watching him seize the reigns with full gusto...

"Much has changed for British teenagers since we were last at Thornhill Academy, and it will be fascinating to see how practices have developed and adapted since the burgeoning impact of social media, the covid epidemic and the intense pressure to deliver good results."

When will it be on TV?

Although we know the new series of Educating Yorkshire will air in 2025, no exact air date has been given just yet. Given that filming will take place during the 24/25 school year, we imagine the series will air later in 2025.

What channel will it be on?

The first series of Educating Yorkshire aired in 2013 and was made up of eight episodes, all filmed at Thornhill Community Academy, a secondary school in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

As well as a Christmas special and a Educating Yorkshire: One Year On episode in 2014, Channel 4 expanded the series to other parts of the country, including Educating Greater Manchester.

Channel 4 bosses say the first series of Educating Yorkshire is to date one of the best performing factual titles on its streaming platform.

One heart-warming scene from series one included Mr Burton helping young student Musharaf Asghar with his stammer during his English speaking exam, advising him to listen to music.

After completing his GCSE's, Musharaf went on to get a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and he's now a motivational speaker.

He says on his LinkedIn profile: 'My name is Musharaf Asghar, and I live life as a keynote speaker with a stammer. I recently finished my degree in Broadcast Journalism to raise awareness of others similar to me. Since my story was first told on the Emmy Award winning series, I have devoted my years to spreading the awareness about stammering and showing the resilience to never give up despite being told I’d never speak again.'

In 2023, Musharaf and Mr Burton reunited during an interview on Good Morning Britain.

Educating Yorkshire will return in 2025.
