Big Brother's Hallie reveals to her housemates that she's transgender

The 18-year-old bravely opens up to the group

The mother of all reality TV shows made an empathic return to our screens on Sunday 8th October, as ITV/STV bosses rebooted Big Brother with a brand new house, new hosts, and 16 new housemates.

After this year's housemates entered and introduced themselves to each other, there was an early twist thanks to some party games, which left dancer Olivia fuming with Welsh boy Jenkin, after his decision meant she was the first to be put up for eviction.

And as the show continues on Monday 9th October, it sounds like the show's youngest contestant, Hallie, has something important to tell her fellow housemates.

Speaking to the group, the Youth Worker from London reveals she is transgender, saying: "Hey guys, I just have something to say. Yesterday I feel like I wasn't being 100% authentic in in myself. I thought I'd let everyone know I'm trans, if you didn't already.

"I just thought I'd make that loud and clear. I'm a trans woman if you didn't know."

Following her announcement, Hallie's fellow housemates show their support, with Chanelle saying: “Good for you. That’s very brave of you.”

Dylan then says: “This is a moment. I like it," with Hallie adding: “I don’t know why I was nervous.”

Farida adds: “You don’t need to be nervous,” with Trish saying: “We’ve got you.”

Sunday night's launch show saw Big Brother achieve its highest launch viewing figures since 2012, with a huge 2.6 million people tuning in across the ITV/STV network.

The opening episode, which was hosted by AJ Ododu and Will Best, also ranked number one in its timeslot for both total viewers and young adults (16-34), and Big Brother was the UK's number one show of the day for young adults (16-34) across all networks.

On Monday night's show, Scottish dancer Olivia is set to stir up more drama as she takes offence to Farida asking if she can share her food.

Whilst eating her lunch, Farida asks: “Can I have a little taste of salmon? I’m much more of a fish person than a chicken person.”

And whilst Olivia allows her to take a bite, the 23-year-old soon heads out to the garden to express her feelings on sharing her food. Speaking to some of her fellow housemates, Olivia says: “Opinions on sharing food?”

Olivia adds: “I was eating my salmon and my corn and Farida was like ‘Can I have some of your corn? And I was like ‘ yeah, go for it.’ Then she started eating my salmon, my actual lunch. She had a spoon and was eating off my plate.”

Olivia then says: “I was a bit like, "I don’t know how I feel about this.”

Big Brother airs every weeknight at 9pm on ITV2/STV2.
