One of the original characters from popular TV series The Walking Dead is set to leave the programme at the end of season nine, according to reports. Andrew Lincoln, who plays the part of former Sheriff Rick Grimes will reportedly be phased out of the series, after only appearing in around six episodes of the upcoming season nine.

According to Collider the character will make way for Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) who will take over as the leading role, and although there is no confirmation on how Rick will leave the show, there are a few reports saying it will be similar to his former co-star, Lauren Cohan’s departure.

Earlier this year Andrew apparently hinted that he could be leaving the popular TV series, as NME reported him as saying, “There’s certainly an endgame in my head. Whether or not that’s the same endgame that’s in the producers’ heads or the people I work with, is another matter. That’s open for discussion."

Andrew has been playing the lead role of Sheriff Rick Grimes since The Walking Dead started back in 2010 and he has been a popular character throughout. He started out his acting career starring in shows such as This Life and Teachers, as well as starring in some hit films such as Love Actually where he played the role of Mark, the best man, before moving to America.

Now have a look at the top films from last year according to Empire magazine.

20. The Lost City Of Z

2013's The Immigrant is sadly still waiting for a UK release, so praise be to the cinematic gods that James Gray's The Lost City Of Z arrived without delay. Based on the true-life tale of British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), this dense but always gripping biopic is part political drama, part family drama and part adventure.
On discovering the remnants of an indigenous society, Fawcett spent his life trying to prove his Amazonian finds until his unexplained disappearance in 1925. Containing one of the most beautiful scenes of the year, this undseen gem deserves, nay, demands your attention.
