Ben Haenow says he’s “the happiest man alive” after storming to victory on The X Factor last night (15th December).

The 29-year-old former van driver from Croydon, Surrey won the eleventh series of the show ahead of bookmakers’ favourite Fleur East after securing 57.2% of the public vote.

His winner’s single, a powerful cover of OneRepublic’s hit ‘Something I Need’, is available to download right now and is a dead cert of the Christmas number one.

Taking to Twitter immediately after last night’s show, Ben told his fans: “Cannot explain how amazing this feels and how grateful I am to everyone who voted! Happiest man alive right now Xx”

Later, he posted a picture of himself proudly clutching the single cover, writing: “Hahahhaa it's real!! I'm actually holding my new single. This is crazy! Thank you everyone.”

The CD version of the single will be released on Wednesday (17th December) and will come backed with some of Ben’s best performances during the show: ‘Jealous Guy, ‘Highway To Hell’ and ‘Man In The Mirror.’

As always with The X Factor winners’ single, 100% of profits will go directly to children’s charity Together for Short Lives.

Ben’s mentor Simon Cowell said of the charity: "I have worked with this charity for many years and I’m delighted that The X Factor winner’s single sales will help families who are going through unthinkably difficult times.

"Together for Short Lives is such an inspiring and important charity which supports children all over the country. The money we hope to raise will really make a difference."
