Sam Smith album sales spike 216% in wake of James Bond chart triumph
'In The Lonely Hour' benefits from Bond success
Sam Smith album sales have more than trebled in the wake of his James Bond theme storming to number one.
Last Friday, Sam’s rousing anthem ‘Writing’s One The Wall’ made chart history when it became the first James Bond theme to reach number one in the UK.
It achieved combined chart sales and streams of 70,000 – 13,000 ahead of the number two ‘Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’
The track overtook Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ and Duran Duran’s ‘View To A Kill’, which up until last week were the highest charting Bond themes at no.2.
Despite ‘Writing’s One The Wall’ not actually being on Sam Smith’s debut record ‘In The Lonely Hour’, that hasn’t stopped fans in their thousands from buying the album.
According to Amazon.co.uk figures, over the past few days ‘In The Lonely Hour’ sales have spiked by 216%.
The album has already sold over 1.7million copies in the UK and in September broke the record for the most consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 for a debut release, with 67 weeks on the bounce!
It has also sold 2million copies in America and more than 8.5million worldwide!
Impressive stuff!
