Robbie Williams Scores The UK’s 1000th Number One Album
He triumphs with 'Swings Both Ways'
Robbie Williams has scored the UK’s 1000th number one album with his latest release ‘Swings Both Ways’.
The Take That star’s chart triumph comes 57-and-a-half years after the first ever number one, fittingly from the exact same musical genre, Frank Sinatra’s ‘Songs For Swingin Lovers’.
39-year-old Robbie told Official Charts: "I am over the moon that Swings Both Ways is Number 1!
“And such an honour to be the 1000th album in that spot too, following Frank Sinatra who was the first person in that spot and my hero. Thanks to everyone who bought the record, see you all on the tour next year!”
The album sold an impressive 109,000 copies in one week to claim the top spot ahead of Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’.
Robbie has now sold more than 18.6million records in the UK and scored 11 number one albums – the exact same tally as The King himself, Elvis Presley.
‘Swings Both Ways’ is Robbie’s second swing album following the 2.3million selling ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ from December 2001.
