Rihanna & Harry Styles Win heat’s Twitter Awards
Kanye West also picks up an honour
Harry Styles and Rihanna have both won big at heat’s first ever Twitter Awards.
Voted for entirely by heat readers, One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles has been named the Best British Popstar for his entertaining Tweets to his 12.75million followers.
Bajan superstar Rihanna takes the Best A-Lister title and Tulisa has won the dubious Best Rant honour for her tweets to her “haters” and all the “negative media”.
Hip-hop icon Kanye West is the recipient of the biggest prize, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to Twitter, for his quirky use of the social networking site.
The rapper only follows one person on the site (his girlfriend Kim Kardashian) and occasionally posts inspiration quotes before deleting his entire feed.
Other winners across the 18 categories are Alan Carr (Funniest Tweeter), Tom Daley (Friendliest Tweeter), Philp Schofield (Best TV Personality) and Boris Johnson (Coolest Politician).
Commenting on his win, Boris said: “I am delighted but bewildered how a middle-aged man like myself with a penchant for cycling slowly could be seen as being cool.
“Being Mayor of the greatest city on earth is a huge honour in itself, but I would like to thank the readers of heat magazine for this fine accolade.”
Lucie Cave, editor-in-chief of heat, added: “In a twittersphere packed with attention-seeking loudmouths, the Mayor Of London's feed has kept heat readers entertained and informed.
“Realistically though, they probably voted for him because of the zip line thing at the Olympics."
