Last updated 4th Aug 2020
Little Mix have come together with others from across the music industry to support #LetTheMusicPlay. Sharing a throwback pic from their latest tour, 'LM5: The Tour', Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson, told their fans,
'This was one of our last shows on LM5: The Tour. This was such an incredible night and would not have been possible without everyone working so hard behind the scenes.
'Due to coronavirus, the live industry is on the verge of collapse, with people losing their jobs and festivals and venues being at risk of closing. It’s time for the government to step up and save the industry #LetTheMusicPlay'.
In recent months the live music industry has suffered because of many cancellations and postponements due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Music festivals support 85,000 jobs, however, with the entire summer cancelled, many are currently facing collapse with 59% redundancies expected across the sector without further support.
Other artists supporting the #LetTheMusicPlay campaign include former One Direction singers Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson who have also shared messages on social media.
'Physical' singer Dua Lipa told her fans, 'I miss this so much! I'm so grateful for the opportunities I've been given. Now it's time to pay back to the incredible people who make up the UK music industry including all the crew who work so hard behind the scenes.'
Sharing a video of one of her performances she went on to explain, 'The industry urgently needs Govt support in the interim period before all the various venues, festivals & promoters are ready and able to operate independently again. #LetTheMusicPlay'.
Coldplay encouraged their fans to, 'Join us by sharing pics/vids of your last pre-lockdown gig, using #LetTheMusicPlay'
Tom Walker, who's recently dropped his single 'Wait For You', took to Twitter this morning to share his support for the campaign with a short video.
The Vamps' James McVey also took to Twitter explaining, 'This isn’t for me, it’s for the thousands behind the scenes that you’ll never see. Those who are in the venues before us setting up & those who leave long after we’ve finished the show. The music industry needs a clear plan & the Government’s full support. #LetTheMusicPlay'.
This campaign has also been supported by Emily Eavis, co-organiser of the annual Glastonbury Festival, who said, 'Today, we are joining with promoters, artists, festival goers and music lovers to call on the UK government to offer support to the live industry, which is frankly on its knees and faces being wiped out. #LetTheMusicPlay'.
And 'Outnumbered' singer Dermot Kennedy told his fans how important performing is to him.
Clyde 1 throwback artist Snow Patrol also encouraged fans to share pics and videos saying, ' It’s struggling massively with 50% of the live music industry workforce facing unemployment.'
