Lawson Invite Andy's Life-Saving Surgeon On Stage At Homecoming Gig

Lawson marked their Liverpool homecoming on Saturday night by inviting the man who saved frontman Andy Brown’s life on stage.

Six years ago, when he was 19, vocalist Andy was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumour after he suddenly went deaf in one ear.

Mr David Lawson, who later inspired the band’s name, successfully undertook the 14-hour operation to save him.

In a poignant tribute to the surgeon, Lawson invited Mr Lawson on stage at their sold-out Liverpool Echo Arena show to a rapturous response from the crowd.

An emotional Andy said afterwards: “To come home and headline your home town arena is a special feeling. Inviting Dr lawson on stage was a dream come true, he's the reason I'm here.”

Andy also told the Liverpool Echo: “Mr Lawson is my hero. I will never be able to thank him for what he did for me when I was 19. I suddenly went deaf in one ear.

“It turned out that I had a brain tumour that was wrapped around my optic nerve. If I hadn’t had it removed I could have died – and I definitely would have gone completely deaf and blind.

“I am totally deaf in one ear now, but it could have been so much worse. Obviously I owed Mr Lawson a big thank you. I owe him everything.”

Lawson’s new single ‘Juliet’ is released this coming Sunday (13th October).
