Last updated 9th May 2022
On 27th April, pop icon Lady Gaga announced that she had a brand new track dropping on 3rd May. As part of the exciting announcement, she revealed that she had spent years perfecting the song for the upcoming Top Gun film. Called 'Hold My Hand' the song has now been released ahead of the film's cinematic release.
Taking to Instagram to announce that the song is now out, she shared a gorgeous photo of herself in an aviator uniform and credited BloodPop and Benjamin Rice for helping to create the song.
The singer has since released the official music video for the song which includes adrenalin-filled scenes from the upcoming film Top Gun: Maverick, interspersed with clips of Lady Gaga in various locations, including playing a grand piano on a runway, as a fighter jet swoops down low over her, and her sitting underneath a plane's wing in a hangar.
In an earlier post, the 'Rain On Me' singer opened up about the meaning behind the new song, saying that as well as writing the song for the film, she also wrote it: 'For people who feel like they’re not gonna be ok or WE ARE never gonna be ok'.
She added: 'Life taught me through hard times to have faith in humanity when it’s hard to have faith in yourself. When you feel lonely, sad, removed from the world, far away from yourself and others #holdmyhand One day you may even be strong enough to hold your own 🤝.
'I love you with my whole heart for all the years I’ve been blessed to sing, write songs, produce and perform for you. Thank you 🙏 here we go!!! 🖤✈️'.
Lady Gaga first announced the song by sharing a stunning black and white photo of herself against a plane from the film. She wrote: 'When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in. I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours.'
'I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other—a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes. I’m so grateful to Tom and Hans and Joe for this opportunity—and it’s been a beautiful experience working with them. Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you.
'This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long. And I’m so excited to give it to you on May 3. “Hold My Hand.”
'🎶 But if you decide to I’ll ride in this life with you I won’t let go till the end 🎶'.
Lady Gaga released her last studio album 'Chromatica' in 2020, so it's no wonder fans are super excited to be getting new material from the superstar.
