Glastonbury organiser received death threats over Kanye West booking
Emily Eavis makes the shocking revelation
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has revealed the shocking news that she received death threats after booking Kanye West to headline this year’s festival.
Kanye will become the first rapper to headline The Pyramid Stage since Jay Z in 2008 next month and from the offset his booking was met with both open arms and hostility.
Over 133,000 have signed a petition to remove Kanye as headliner (somewhat tellingly it was put together by someone who had never even attended the vibrant, eclectic festival) but it seems a very small minority took their dislike to the rapper to vile extremes.
Speaking to The Times, Emily said: "I had death threats and stuff. It was just horrible. It was just crazy. It was getting out of control.
“We had Time magazine, all the American news channels saying they were going to come down. This incredible onslaught worldwide.”
She continued: "It was quite upsetting because we were talking about something that was so exciting and interesting and fresh and brilliant for the festival.
“Kanye West is making the most exciting music at the moment. He is an amazing force as a performer. For us, getting the biggest star in the world was an amazing coup."
Kanye will top the Worthy Farm bill on the Saturday night, while Foo Fighters headline on Friday and The Who close the music & arts spectacular on Sunday.
All tickets to Glastonbury are completely and utterly sold out.
