Emeli Sandé Gets Honorary Degree From Glasgow University
She's made a Doctor of Letters
Emeli Sandé has been awarded an honorary degree by the University of Glasgow for her outstanding contribution to music.
The 26-year-old singer, who was brought up in Alford in Aberdeenshire, attended a ceremony at the university yesterday (12th June) where she was awarded a Doctor of Letters degree.
Sharing a photo of Emeli, the university Tweeted: “Congratulations to @emelisande who was made a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) by Glasgow Uni today!”
Emeli studied Medicine at Glasgow University but dropped out in the fourth year to concentrate on her music career – a move that paid off significantly!
Emeli’s number one debut album ‘Our Version Of Events’ stayed in the UK Top 10 record 63 consecutive weeks from February 2012 to March 2013, smashing a record previously held by The Beatles.
The album has sold more than 1.5million copies in the UK and has spawned three top five singles – ‘Heaven’, ‘Next To Me’ and ‘Clown’.
