Calvin Harris Smashes Michael Jackson Chart Record
Is there any stopping the Scottish dance superstar?!
Calvin Harris has smashed Michael Jackson’s chart record by scoring eight Top 10 singles from a single album!
Yesterday evening the eighth song to be lifted from Calvin’s third album ’18 Months’ - the amazing Ellie Goulding collaboration ‘I Need Your Love’ – climbed to number seven ensuring the Scot’s incredible feat.
Calvin has now been confirmed as the first artist in the 61-year history of Official Singles Chart to score eight Top 10 hits from a record.
Michael Jackson’s 1987 classic ‘Bad’ and 1991 follow-up ‘Dangerous’ both spawned seven Top 10 singles each – a record The King of Pop held for 22 years.
Calvin Tweeted last night: “Eight Top 10s from my album 18 Months now! So happy!!!”
Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, said: “Many artists only achieve a handful of hits in their entire careers, so for any act to secure three or four from one album is an excellent achievement.
“In turn, eight Top 10s from one album is not just impressive, it is absolutely remarkable. And, of course, record breaking. Congratulations to Calvin Harris, THE modern day hit-maker.”
Calvin’s incredible chart run began in June 2011 with ‘Bounce’ ft. Kelis (which peaked at Number 2), followed by ‘Feel So Close’ (2), ‘We Found Love’ with Rihanna (2), ‘Let’s Go’ ft. Ne-Yo (2), ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’ ft. Example (2), ‘Sweet Nothing’ ft. Florence Welch (1) and ‘Drinking From The Bottle’ (5).
Since its release in October 2012, ’18 Months’ has sold over half a million copies in the UK alone.
Massive congratulations Calvin!
