It turns out the Caribbean WON'T be in this year's Eurovision Song Contest 😕

Bosses have cleared up confusion!

Author: Alex RossPublished 4th Jan 2024

Fans of the Eurovision Song Contest thought April Fool's Day had arrived early at the beginning of this week, when bosses seemed to tease that the Caribbean would have some form of involvement in the 2024 event.

Of course, the last time we checked the Caribbean wasn't in Europe, so fans were incredibly confused at the social media post, which read: 'NEW YEAR! NEW NEWS! 🚨 We’re thrilled to confirm that THE CARIBBEAN is coming to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024'. (sic)

HOWEVER, all has now been revealed, with bosses taking to social media again on Thursday 4th January to clear things up and reveal all...

Is the Caribbean in Eurovision?

The answer is no! It turns out the tease was actually to promote the contest's brand new 2024 sponsor, Royal Caribbean International.

Taking to social media to announce the news, bosses wrote: 'Did you guess it right? Royal Caribbean International is proudly sponsoring the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Stay tuned for more and cue the jazz hands, it’s going to get loud! #Eurovision2024 #RoyalCaribbean #UnitedByMusic'. (sic)

Fans were quick to comment on the post, with many admitting they'd been fooled into thinking the Eurovision Song Contest was expanding.

One person wrote: 'They really had us all thinking that a Caribbean country was participating 😂😂. They got me good'. (sic)

Another added: 'Why ya do dat? Ya got a trini-italian real exited for a moment 😆', with another writing: 'Yes I did. Yes I thought a Caribbean nation would debut. 😂' (sic). Another added: 'not me who thought a caribbean country would be joining😭'. (sic)

So although the Caribbean won't be appearing, the UK have high hopes for 2024, now that it's been confirmed former Years & Years singer Olly Alexander will be representing.

The exciting news was announced during the Strictly Come Dancing final in December last year, with Olly saying: "I’ve loved watching Eurovision ever since I was a little kid and I’m beyond excited to be taking part next year. As a young boy I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion and humour.

"I really can’t believe I’m going to be a part of such a special legacy and fly the flag for the UK in the gayest way possible, it shall be an honour! I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name. I’m determined to give it everything I’ve got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all!”

At this moment in time, Olly's song hasn't yet been announced.

Following Loreen's victory at the 2023 contest, this year's show will take place in Malmö, Sweden, on Saturday 11th May.
