WATCH: The trailer for the new Jumanji film is here...

It's different to the original

Back in 1995 the original Jumanji was released that saw a board game come to life with dangerous creatures like giant spiders, natural events like monsoons and even a herd of elephants, zebras and rhinoceros. The late, great Robin Williams played Alan Parrish who gets sucked into the board game and then reappears 26 years later as a grown man who has survived in the jungle all those years.

The new Jumanji film looks to explore what life was like in the jungle as this time this is where the action is set.

The plot for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is described as a 'brand new adventure' and sees four teenagers sucked into the world of Jumanji after playing the video game (the classic board game element has gone). They are then placed into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. The plot summary states they’ll have to 'go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever'.

It looks like it will be more of a comedy than the first film, which at times was genuinely frightening. The avatars are very different to the people trapped in them, the geek becomes the strong hero, the athlete is suddenly not strong, the shy girl is the hot girl with killer fighting skills and the hot girl is suddenly an overweight, middle=aged man, which looks like it's going to lead to a lot of fun and chaos.

The film also stars Nick Jonas.
