Fans were quick to share their excitement, with one writing: 'The excitement is TOO much for this 👏😬 forget the kids this is for the 90s babies 😂😂😂' (sic).
Sharing a first-look art from Toy Story 5 back in August 2024, the official Disney UK page wrote on social media: 'Get excited for their next chapter as Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang all return for #ToyStory5, coming to cinemas Summer 2026! 🤠🚀'.
At the time, fans of the iconic movie franchise shared their excitement for the fifth instalment. One wrote: 'I'm already so excited for this 😍 Toy Story was my childhood favourite film and still is at 38 ✨💙🚀'.
Another wrote: 'Its' too early in the morning for me to be getting emotional at seeing them all together again!!! DISNEY!!! my HEART !!!!', with another writing: 'omg, omg, omg'.
When is it out?
Disney have now revealed the movie is scheduled for release on 19th June 2026.
What is the plot?
At Disney's Expo in August 2024, Toy Story writer Andrew Stanton confirmed he will be directing the fifth movie, telling the crowd: "Toy Story holds a special place in my heart. Through the experiences of these toys, we've all learned about loyalty and belonging and friendship.
"These characters have given us a unique perspective about growing up and navigating life. In all of the Toy Story films, above everything else, the job of the toys has been to be there for their kids."
Explaining the premise of the movie, he added: "But with Toy Story 5, the toys' jobs are going to be made exponentially harder when our toy crew goes head-to-head with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics.
"Let's be real: toys have some serious competition these days with phones, tablets and technology everywhere, so this time around it's toy meets tech."
Giving even more away, Andrew added: "There's a little issue involving 50 rogue commemorative Buzz Lightyear action figures stuck in toy mode that will make considerable problems for everyone.
"It's going to be so fun, and we can't wait for you all to see it."
Who is in the cast?
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will return as cowboy Woody and Buzz Lightyear, while Joan Cusack saddles up to play cowgirl Jessie again. Meanwhile Tony Hale is back as the voice of Forky and new character Lilypad, a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet, will be voiced by Greta Lee (Past Lives/The Morning Show). It was also announced that Conan O’Brien will voice toilet training tech toy, Smarty Pants.
