Fans of BBC drama Luther were over the moon last year when Netflix revealed plans to produce a follow-up movie, with Luther: The Fallen Sun landing on the streaming platform on 10th March 2023.

After the success of the film, which starred Idris Elba as DCI John Luther, and the likes of Andy Serkis, Cynthia Erivo and Hattie Morahan, the man himself Idris has revealed he'd love to make a sequel.

Whilst promoting his gripping new Apple TV series Hijack, Idris said to Collider: "It did really well. Luther ended up being one of the top five most streamed films on Netflix, which is an incredible achievement, since it was the first film from the television show. I’m hoping to make another one.

"I love Luther. I love that character, and I love where I can possibly take him, as a story and as a character. So, yeah, keep your fingers crossed."

Released in March this year, Luther: The Fallen Sun was a continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film, with some changes to the plot of the TV show.

Idris returned as DCI John Luther as he broke out of prison to finish a job, and without giving away too many spoilers, the action concluded with an MI5 agent seemingly offering him a job, rather than him returning behind bars.

As the first film ended so perfectly for another instalment, we certainly hope we will be seeing more of DCI Luther in the future.

Whilst we await any more news about a potential sequel, Luther: The Fallen Sun is available to stream on Netflix now.
