Singer Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth have announced they have separated, after getting married in December last year.

A representative for the singer said the pair have agreed to take a break, deciding it is the best move for both of them.

They said, "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers."

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.

"Please respect their process and privacy."

The Hannah Montana star married Liam in an intimate ceremony, after Liam popped the question in 2012. However, the pair went their separate ways in 2015, before reconciling in 2016, with the engagement still on.

The news of the pair's split comes after Liam welled up live on TV back in February 2019, revealing that Miley had taken his last name.

Speaking to Kelly and Ryan about Miley’s change of name, the actor said, “She'll still be obviously known as Miley Cyrus but she took my name which is great.

“That was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn't ask her to take my name but she was like, ‘no, of course I'm taking your name’."

Fans have been quick to react on social media to the split, with one fan taking to Twitter to write, 'Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth breaking up has actually hurt my heart', whilst another wrote, 'Woke up to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth divorce news.. so heartbreaking. I remember how excited i was when they got married.'. sic

We hope both are OK.
