Lily Allen receives backlash over her reply to Rita Ora's Prince tribute
Fans of the star called her reply sarcastic
Lily Allen caused a stir last night when she seemed to sarcastically reply to fellow pop star Rita Ora's tribute to Prince.
The 57-year-old music legend sadly passed away yesterday (21st April) leaving fans all over the world in mourning.
Former X Factor judge Rita Ora, along with many other celebrities took to Twitter to pay their respects. Rita described Prince as her ‘kind friend’ in the heartfelt tribute.
However, it was Lily’s reply which left fans of the star unhappy. The ‘Smile’ singer, who is known for her outspoken behaviour, wrote ‘Pics or it never happened’ implying that Rita was lying about getting close to the star.
Upon seeing her message Rita’s fans, including best friend and TOWIE star Vas J Morgan, waded in on the spat.
In a series of tweets which have now been removed Vas wrote “Get off Twitter and go look after your children, they’re prob wondering where mummy is. Running around being off duty. (sic).”
An angry Lily reply saying, “They’re in bed thanks.”
Clearly unhappy, fans of the ‘Black Widow’ singer tweeted Lily for her ‘disrespectful’ message.
After receiving some harsh backlash, the singer replied again to Rita’s message saying “I didn’t mean that in a mean way, I’m just jealous you were so close to my idol. #superfan #ritabots go IN.”
She later paid her own respects to the ‘Purple Rain’ singer, calling him a ‘legend’.
The news of Prince’s sad passing rocked the world yesterday, with his friends and fans in the industry leading the tributes.
The singer’s body was reportedly discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota, with the cause of his death still unknown.
