He's known for his dramatic storylines on hit BBC soap EastEnders, but actor Jake Wood had his own life drama recently, when his wife Alison was nearly eaten alive during a family holiday to America.

Jake, who plays the infamous role of Max Branning on the soap, has opened up about the scary moment, admitting his wife was face-to-face with an alligator.

The actor told The Daily Star, “I almost lost my wife to an alligator in Florida. We were out in a boat and she needed to get out. So, she was standing in the water about 15 feet away I see this thing floating down the river.

"So I'm looking at it and thinking: 'It's got to be a log or something. Got to be a log."

Jake then added, "All of a sudden it f---ing goes down and I f---ing see an eye. All the kids are screaming, I'm screaming: 'Get back in the boat!' As soon as an alligator goes underwater you don't know where it is, it was horrible. It was only about 15 feet away.”

Jake went on to reveal that when the family returned to the shore to hand the hire boat back in, the man revealed his shock that they'd got out of the boat, telling the family, "I wouldn't have got out of the boat. There's that alligator there, he's a maneater."

Back in 2016, Jake and his wife Alison decided to renew their wedding vows, following 16 years of marriage. Not only did their children Amber and Buster attend, the lovely ceremony but also some of Jake's co-stars.
