A hacker has been slammed for his 'sick prank' after announcing Jack Black's death on the actor's official band page on Twitter.

Tenacious D, which is made up of the actor and Kyle Gass, announced that the Kung Fu Panda star is 'alive and well' after a series of tweets were posted by a hacker.

The confusion began when the official Twitter account posted 'I'm sad to officially announce the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother.'

Two more tweets followed saying '#RipJackBlack' and another saying when he had died, but fans became suspicious when nothing was then posted on the official Facebook page.

Despite many believing the news might be true and that another celebrity had died this year, a couple of hours later it was revealed the account had been taken over by hacker Ruthless.

The tweet revealing the poor taste prank said 'The legend is still alive, it is ok guys.'

The cheeky hacker even asked people to follow his Twitter account.

The band are currently returning from a rock festival in Germany where over 80 people had to be hospitalised following thunder storms.

Jack Black recently voiced the animated character of Po in Kung Fu Panda 3 which was released in March this year. He also starred in the film Goosebumps which was released in February.
