Ellen's Selfie and One Direction Tweets 'Disappear' From Twitter

The social networking site is investigating a bug

Twitter is investigating a bug that’s caused tweets from celebrities to vanish from the social networking site.

Users were left baffled last night when the renowned Ellen DeGeneres Oscars selfie – the most retweeted of all time with 3.4million shares – magically disappeared from Twitter.

Also ‘deleted’ was Lady Gaga’s highly popular September photo of her with Miley Cyrus along with the caption: "Do not leave your children with Lady Gaga."

An October 2011 tweet from One Direction's Louis Tomlinson to Harry Styles saying: "Always in my heart @Harry_Styles. Yours sincerely, Louis" that was retweeted 400,000 times also disappeared.

And notorious pop sensation Justin Bieber was also affected. The September 2012 tweet "RIP Avalanna. I love you" marking the death of a fan was hit by the bug.

Tweets from the late Glee star Cory Monteith also disappeared in the technical blip.

When users tried to click on the photos, they were confronted by the fail message "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!"

Twitter told users late last night that they were aware of the issue and were trying to fix it, writing: “We are currently researching a bug that has caused some Tweets to not be displayed.”

Tweets, including the Ellen selfie and Cory Monteith’s posts, have now reappeared but at the time of writing fans can’t see the Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber tweets.
