Demi Lovato is the latest star to be hit with copyright claims over her music. A copyright infringement lawsuit was filled against the star by band Sleigh Bells in a LA court this week.

Sleigh Bells claim Demi's 2015 track 'Stars' samples their 2010 'Infinity Guitars' without their permission.

The lawsuit states “A comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as 3 quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works… This infringing material repeats throughout the defendants’ song."

Sleigh Bells are seeking "substantial profits" in damages.

Demi's producers issued a statement, saying: "We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato's song 'Stars.' Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote top line."

Do you think they sound similar?

The news comes just weeks after Ed Sheeran was accused of copying Marvin Gay’s ‘Let’s Get It On’ with his track ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

Heirs of the composer, Ed Townsend, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit claiming Ed Sheeran's track has copied 'core elements' of the 1973 soul track.

The lawsuit argued that harmonic progressions and rhythmic elements of 'Let's Get It On' form the main structure for 'Thinking Out Loud'. It states "The Defendants copied the 'heart' of 'Let's' and repeated it continuously throughout 'Thinking'. The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of 'Thinking' are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of 'Let's'."
