The world of showbiz was ROCKED by the news that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson had called off their engagement. The 'No Tears Left To Cry' singer and the Saturday Night Live comedian began a whirlwind relationship back in May this year when they got engaged after a few weeks of dating.

With news of the engagement being called off PLUS reports that Pete has had his Ariana bunny ears tattoo covered up, things are not looking good for the couple.

However, it turns out that things might not have completely fizzled out between them after all - a source close to the 25-year-old, who named one of the tracks off her brand new album 'Sweetener' after Pete, has told People magazine that things aren't completely over, they've just decided to take a break from their engagement.

They said, "Their engagement is off, but they still plan on spending time together. It’s not like they split and never plan on seeing each other again - they just decided to slow things down."

PHEW. There'll be a collective sigh of relief from fans who were rooting for these two.

Unsurprisingly, the source revealed that the reason behind their decision to "slow things down" was the death of Ariana's ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, who was tragically found dead last month.

They added, "It was devastating and shocking to her. It’s had a huge, negative impact on her life and made her rethink many things in her life. She realised that planning a wedding right now felt very rushed," adding that it’s not "what she wants to do right now."

They also revealed that Ariana didn't want to make any "rushed decisions" and has decided to "take a step back instead."

This comes after Ariana broke her social media silence after news broke of her and Pete's decision - but she didn't address the news at all.

Instead, she promoted a special 15th anniversary performance of musical Wicked, which she'll be taking part in soon.

She wrote, 'Honored to be included in this celebration of 15 years of my favorite musical of all time 💚 wouldn’t miss it for the whole universe.'
