9 things we know about Star Wars Episode VIII
John Boyega has said that the next saga film will be "much darker".
Hot on the heals of The Force Awakens John Boyega has revealed in an interview that filming has already started on Star Wars: Episode VIII due out next year.
While a lot of mystery still surrounds plot of the next 'saga' film here are some things that we know from interviews the cast and crew have done over recent weeks.
- John Boyega told Vogue that the film is "much darker" but he's very excited. Source
- He also told Vogue that his part will be more physical in the upcoming film and he might need to go to the gym more! Source
- Daisy Ridley told Variety magazine that she has read the script for Episode VIII and "it’s very good; very good" but she wouldn't reveal anything else. Source
- The planned release date is 26 May 2017, but as always this could always change. Get your diaries out now!
- Some scenes of Episode VIII have already been filmed. For those who have watched The Force Awakens, you'll know the final scene takes place on a remote island. This island, Skellig Michael, is just off the Irish coast and also used as a location in Episode VIII. The scenes there are believed to have been shot late last year. Star Wars fans can even visit the location by boat. Source
- Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the lead actors will all return for the sequel. Source
- Benicio del Toro has been confirmed to play a villain. Source

8. Episode VIII is written and directed by Looper director Rian Johnson, he is also writing Episode IX. Source
- Director of Episode IX Colin Trevorrow promises a "deeply and profoundly satisfying" answer to the Rey and Luke theories, however it isn't clear if they will be revealled in Episode VII or Trevorrow's film due out in 2019! Can we wait that long?! Source
