North East Glasgow Framework for Dialogue
North East Glasgow Framework for Dialogue are a community group who provide a safe space through which refugee and asylum-seeking families can receive mutual support, community, and information.
Asylum seekers and refuges face distinct problems and inequalities due to their immigration status. Parents of these children often have no access to work or public/government grants, living in social invisibility, isolation, and socioeconomic deprivation. They also face cultural barriers, stigma, and stereotypes.
Framework for Dialogue meets twice each month and aim to provide a service which develops knowledge of local services, shares views and information, and discusses issues which concern group members, trying to find ways to address these issues. Invited speakers from service providers speak about their services, relevant to asylum seekers and refugees. They encourage involvement in the management, committee, and/or organising activities to support members’ integration into the group.
Many group members suffer from isolation and mental health issues resulting from the asylum process and bad experiences in their home countries. Framework for Dialogue aims to alleviate this through the organisation of social and education activities, outings, and children & family events.
Grants from Cash for Kids contributes to the running of events, outings, and activities for isolated children and families. Framework for Dialogue also receive vouchers from these grants to provide shopping vouchers for children of group members. This ensures that parents can buy essential items to support their families, such as food, baby milk, toiletries, medicine, etc. from their local supermarkets.
