Two people have been seriously injured in a road crash in Irvine.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old man, is in a critical but stable condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after his red Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a tree on Towerlands Road on Thursday.

His passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock with serious injuries.

The collision, between B7081 Main Street in Dreghorn and Heatherstane Way, closed the road for around six hours.

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident. I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, stopped to assist, or who has any information that may help us to please contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving on Towerlands Road round the time to review any dashcam footage and get in touch if it holds anything relevant.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 1760 of 26 September, 2024.”
