North Ayrshire Council spent £5m on pothole repairs in last six years
More than £16,000 has also been shelled out for damage claims because of potholes
More than £5m has been spent by North Ayrshire Council on pothole repairs in the past six years.
A Freedom of Information request to the authority shows that £5,400,350.93 was spent on the troublesome hazards between 2019-20 and 2024-25
The figure for the current financial year of £1,070,747.93 is the highest incurred since 2019-20 when £1,095,977.36 was shelled out.
The figure for 2023-24 was £943,402.00, while in 2022-3, some £819,424.96 was spent.
In 2021-22, the figure was £855,744.12 and for 2020-21, £615,054.56.
North Ayrshire Council, meanwhile paid out more than £16,000 on damage report claims due to potholes between 2019-20 and 2024-25.
The most expensive year was in 2023-24 when some £4,000.83 was paid out.
In 2019-20 the figure was £1,147.50 and in 2020-21, £2,577.62 was paid out. The total in 2021-22 was £4,896.34 and in 2022-23 £1,246.17 was paid out. ,In 2024-25 the figure was £2,467.98
Nothing has been paid out so far in 2025-26.
More than 10,00 reports relating to potholes have been made since 2020, with the highest number so far 2,404 in 2024.
This year so far up until June 19, there have been 743 reports.
The figure for 2023 is 2,333 and for 2022 1,411 with 2,173 in 2021 and 1,647 in 2020.
Top road for pothole reports in the year until June 19 is Kilwinning Road, Irvine with 33, while Towerlands Road, Irvine had 31 and Long Drive, Irvine 29. Bannock Road in Kilwinning had 27 and the B769 from Middleton Road to Horse muir East on the East Ayrshire boundary 23.
Bridgend, Kilbirnie saw 16 and Greenwood Interchange, Irvine had 15.
Newton Street, Kilbirnie had 14 and Hill Interchange, Irvine recorded 13.
