Family pay tribute to 'much loved son' who died in Ayrshire crash

A man who died in a crash involving two cars in Ayrshire has been named by police.

Police said a silver Honda Civic and a white Mercedes B class crashed near Largs on the A769 Largs to Kilbirnie Road at about 5.10pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended and the 22-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been named as Johnny Baxter, from the Kilbirnie area, police said on Friday.

In a statement, his family say he was a "much loved son, brother and grandson".

They said: "Johnny will be missed by everyone who knew him.

"He was a much loved son, brother and grandson."

The passenger in the Honda, also 22, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

The 63-year-old driver of the Mercedes was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock for assessment.

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: "Our thoughts continue to be with the family of Mr Baxter at what is a very difficult time for them.

"Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who can assist with our investigation and has not already spoken to officers to please get in touch."
